TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metro Police on Wednesday raided a shop in West Jakarta that was used as a headquarter for an illegal online lending firm. The raid aligns with the direct instruction from President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo upon eradicating such businesses.
“We received reports of an illegal online loan that threatens the safety of residents which we eventually investigated,” said the Central Jakarta Police Chief Grand Commissioner Hengki Haryadi on October 14.
Prior to the raid, police confirmed the legality of the company to the FInancial Services Authority (OJK), which confirmed that the online lending firm is illegal and unlisted. Dozens of the illegal firm’s employees were secured by police.
The Jakarta Metro Police is deepening its investigation and tracking down the owner of the company and said that the progress will be announced soon by the West Jakarta Police Sector.
