TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - E-commerce firm Shopee officially established its newest office in Solo Paragon Mall, Solo City, Central Java. The office was targeted to absorb 2,000 local workers until 2022.
“This office opening is aimed at supporting many businesses in Solo,” Shopee Indonesia director Handhika Jahja in the virtual launching event on Monday, October 11.
According to him, Shopee believed that the growth of the national economy starts from regions, and thus several services were launched in Solo.
Earlier, Shopee and Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming had also launched Kampus UMKM Shopee or the Shopee MSME Campus to help local entrepreneurs enter the export market.
To date, a total of 6,500 MSMEs have joined the program and successfully exported their products. The figure is targeted to reach 10,000 this year.
Handhika pinned hopes that his side could further develop local talents with the opening of the office. He called on the public to build the city together.
Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming also hoped that the Shopee office in the city could make Solo become an important part of the global community. “Together with the best local talents, we are realizing dreams,” he said.
