Administering Vaccine Boosters Not Viable With Limited Supply: Govt

TEMPO.CO, JakartaHealth Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin provided his response to questions regarding whether vaccine booster shots should be administered for members of the public during a vistual event on Thursday, October 7, 2021.

Budi argued that administering the third vaccine dose may be clinically correct as it does improve a recipient's antibody. However, considering the currently limited supply of the third phase vaccine, administering it for the general public would be unethical.

Sadikin added that anyone who wants a vaccine booster would better travel to the United States and have their third dose there to avoid taking domestic supply.

"You could travel to the U.S. and have your shot there. You do clinically and ethically right. Because you will not be using those allocated in Indonesia. There are still people who have not received vaccine shots," said the Health Minister on Thursday, October 7, 2021.

Budi insisted that administering the third vaccinatio phase will reduce the chances for 108 million Indonesians who have not even received their first dose to be vaccinated.
