Bio Farma Boss: The Pandemic Is A Blessing

7 October 2021 15:51 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hnesti Basyir, President director of the state-pharmaceutical holding firm Bio Farma considers the Covid-19 pandemic a blessing rather than a problem.

"I might argue that it's a positive blessing actually," said Honesti in a virtual event on Thursday, October 7, 2021.

The pandemic attacked Indonesia several months after Honesti was appointed to lead the company in September 2019. He said that the company had to act immediately to assist the government in mitigating the pandemic whether they are ready or not.

"On the other hand, we have to perform another function, how to organize the transformation of Bio Farma into a holding company," Honesti added.

Since the end of 2019, the government has prepared the pharmaceutical firm to be a holding company for state-owned pharmaceutical companies overseeing Kimia Farma and Indofarma.

In justifying his comment, he insists that the Covid-19 pandemic had provided clarity about the priorities needed to be done by BioFarma as a holding company and revealed the country's weakness in health resilience.

"However, this pandemic is not just felt by Indonesia and even the largest nations in the world found many aspects that needed to be fixed," said Honesti.
