TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe government decided to extend the public mobility restrictions or PPKM for the next two weeks, or October 5-18, 2021. The Java Bali PPKM Coordinator, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan announced that the government changed a number of rules and eased several restrictions.

Tempo summarizes the changes based on Luhut’s latest announcement as follows:

  1. Greater Jakarta is still under PPKM Level 3

The agglomeration areas of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek or Greater Jakarta) are still at PPKM Level 3 status given the low coverage of COVID-19 vaccination in Bogor, Tangerang, and Bekasi.

  1. 20 regions at PPKM Level 2

A total of 20 regencies/cities, including Greater Semarang in Central Java, remains at PPKM Level 2. “Greater Solo is now also at level 2,” said Luhut.

However, dozens of regions see their PPKM status return to level 3. There are now 107 regions at PPKM Level 3 from previously 84 regions. “Because they are not able to increase the number of vaccination,” Luhut added.

  1. Cirebon, Banjar, and Madiun

Luhut also announced that other agglomeration areas such as Magelang, Greater Bandung, Greater Malang, and Greater Surabaya are still at level 3. However, the PPKM status in 3 non-agglomeration regions, viz. Cirebon, Banjar, and Madiun dropped to level 2.

  1. New Normal in Blitar

The government will also hold a trial of implementing the new normal in Blitar, East Java as it has met a number of requirements.

  1. Fitness and Cinema

The government allows the reopening of fitness centers located in PPKM Level 1-3 areas at a maximum capacity of 25 percent. Food and beverage outlets in movie theaters are also allowed to serve visitors. However, the capacity of cinemas is still limited to 50 percent.

  1. Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali

During the extended PPKM, Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport will open international arrivals starting October 14, 2021. The Honda DBL Youth Basketball competition in Jakarta and Surabaya are also allowed to commence.
