TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Pandjaitan in a press conference on Monday announced the government would test the implementation of Level 1 public activity restriction (PPKM Level 1) dubbed as the "new normal" in Blitar city.

“The trial of PPKM Level 1 is carried out because it [Blitar] has fulfilled the World Health Organization (WHO)'s indicator conditions,” he said on October 4.

He said the vaccination target of the first dose in the city had reached 70 percent, while that aiming at the elderly had touched 60 percent.

According to Luhut, who also acts as the PPKM coordinator for Java and Bali, the implementation of the lowest restriction level in the region would see public activities return to a near-normal condition. To balance this policy, the government plans to increase its surveillance, testing, tracing, and improve people’s discipline towards health protocols.

“We will mobilize a special team to monitor the implementation in Blitar city, which is hoped to establish the region as a role model for other regions,” Luhut Pandjaitan explained.

The lightest PPKM will only be introduced to other regions depending on the outcome of this project. Twenty regions on the islands of Java and Bali will still be under PPKM level 2 while 107 regencies and cities will still be under PPKM Level 3.
