Discussing G30S Essential to Spark Critical Thinking Among Youths: Expert

30 September 2021 13:52 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Riau Islamic State University (UIN) Head of Institute for Research Development and Community Service, Miftahul Huda, on Tuesday asserted the importance for the young generation to discuss the September 30 Movement (G30S), which is one of dark past in Indonesia’s history.

Moreover, Huda believes youths can grow new and fair perspectives by exposing themselves to the sensitive history of G30S, which involves the now-defunct Indonesian Communist Party (PKI).

“It is meant to spark critical thinking among young people, which will enable them to handle real issues in the future,” said Huda to Tempo on September 21.

He believes discussion regarding these issues must be facilitated by exposing history in an openly honest and fair way that involves a large part of society that has different perspectives such as political observers up to geopolitics experts.

Huda said issues about the communist party are often viewed as a forbidden topic to discuss, which is a social setback. Facilitating discussion properly would give the opportunity for society to form their own judgement about the matter and create a solution that would prevent similar events happening in the future.
