Komnas HAM Demands Jokowi's Explanation on Fate of KPK Employees

29 September 2021 15:24 WIB

President Joko Widodo or Jokowi, accompanied by Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko (left) and State Secretary Pratikno, speaks in a press conference on the revision to the Law on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) at the State Palace in Jakarta, Friday, September 13, 2019. ANTARA

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) hoped that President Joko Jokowi Widodo would give an explanation regarding the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo’s decision to recruit 56 Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) employees as the state apparatus (ASN) of the National Police.

“The idea offered by the National Police Chief can be interpreted as the president’s stance,” said Komnas HAM Commissioner Choirul Anam in his statement, Wednesday, September 29.

Thus, Anam argued it was necessary for Komnas HAM to get an explanation from the President directly as his side had submitted findings and recommendations to the President.

One of the recommendations, he added, was the status restoration of the employees who did not pass the civic knowledge test (TWK) to be ASN as in line with the law.

Anam also asked Komnas HAM’s findings related to human rights violations, unlawful, and illegal processes in the TWK process to be considered in the President's decision on the polemic.

Additionally, he reminded that President Jokowi made an order that any decision should not harm KPK employees, which became one of the basic recommendations besides the Constitutional Court’s ruling.

“On that basis, we still use our recommendations as the main reference. And we hope to get a direct explanation from the president regarding the National Police Chief’s decision,” said Anam.
