Students Absent in Schools as Some Got Married, Found Jobs Amid Pandemic

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The North Sumatra head of education Syaifuddin on Tuesday said 800 students failed to appear in schools as it reopens for physical attendance schooling (PTM) amid the pandemic.
There were many reasons why the students were absent, with one of it being used to remote learning or homeschooling and other intriguing reasons such as some students that have found jobs and got married during the pandemic.
“We found some have gotten used to [remote learning], some already started working at jobs but many had already married. There are roughly 800 people,” he said on September 28, Antaranews reported.
Moreover, the local government is currently paying close attention to the enactment of Covid-19 health protocols as classrooms are reopened again. The policy is mentioned under North Sumatra Governor’s Instruction.
Apart from imposing strict health protocols, school canteens are still not permitted to open while mass vaccinations for teachers and students in the region is being accelerated.
