TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mursyid Bustami, President Director of the National Brain Center Hospital (RS PON), said the brain hemorrhage suffered by comedian Tukul Arwana was not related to the COVID-19 vaccine.
“There is no link between the hemorrhagic stroke and the COVID-19 vaccine, regardless of the vaccine brand,” said Mursyid at a press conference on Friday, September 24.
Tukul Arwana is being treated at RS PON after suffering a brain hemorrhage. Many netizens suspected that the condition was caused by the vaccine because the famous comedian had just received the shot a few days ago.
Brain hemorrhage is a type of stroke. Mursyid explained that cerebral hemorrhage could occur because the blood vessels are not strong enough to withstand high blood pressure. “So there is leakage and blood comes out of the blood vessels creating problems,” he said.
According to Mursyid, there has been no scientific study noting that the COVID-19 vaccine triggered the occurrence of hemorrhagic stroke. Thus, he asked the public not to misunderstand the condition and not hesitate to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
