TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has ordered his Cabinet members to be prepared for a scenario that might see a third wave of COVID-19 spread across the country. This statement was mentioned by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
“In accordance with the President’s instruction, we in the Cabinet have been asked to prepare for the worst scenario involving a wave [of coronavirus],” said Luhut on September 20.
He then cited a finding from a study entitled “Multiwave pandemic dynamics explained: how to tame the next wave of infectious diseases,” stating that the key in suppressing viral spread is by controlling the number of cases during the strolling period, or when cases are low.
Luhut believes Indonesia will need to suppress cases down to 10 cases per one million population on a daily basis or in Indonesia’s case is 2,700-3,000 cases. He claimed that Indonesia’s positivity rate can be reduced to below the WHO standard.
“I am positive we can control the spread of cases up to that number and the key is 3T, 3M, and the use of the PeduliLindungi app,” he said.
