TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said the global communities were astonished by Indonesia’s ability to curb the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 that causes COVID-19 and get through the pandemic crisis.
“The world today is looking at Indonesia in awe as we were able to pass the previous test well. We are now in a much safer situation,” said Anies during the commemoration event of the Ikada big meeting at the City Hall on Monday, September 20.
According to him, Indonesia managed to get through the difficult times of the pandemic thanks to the cooperation of all parties, both the government and the people. Anies saw similarities between the unity of people and the government during the big meeting at Ikada Field on September 19, 1945, and that during the current pandemic handling.
The former Minister of Education and Culture said that pandemic handling is a joint task of both the government and the people. “This recalls the event of September 1945 when the people and their leaders were in line, declared to unite and move together.”
Anies Baswedan thus called for further cooperation in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic in various aspects in an effort to keep suppressing the virus transmission.
The Health Ministry’s spokesperson for the COVID-19 Vaccination, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, said Indonesia’s COVID-19 situation was now at level two, dropped from level 4 in July 2021, following a dramatic decline in cases 92 percent.
