TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A total of 188 esports athletes from various provinces have arrived in Jayapura, Papua, and are ready to compete in the XX National Sports Week or PON starting Wednesday, September 22, 2021, said an official of the Indonesian Esports Executive Board (PB ESI).
“There are 200,000 registered participants, but about 50,000 athletes are ready to compete and 188 athletes are already present in Papua,” said PB ESI Head of Public Relations and Communications, Ashadi, when met at the Doyo Baru indoor hockey field, Jayapura, Sunday.
The athletes would stay in the athletes’ village or Wisma Atlet. Ashadi explained that the organizing committee implemented a bubble system for them in order to limit their mobility to maintain health and safety.
“Athletes are only allowed to do activity in this area so they are not allowed to go anywhere,” Ashadi added.
To enforce the health protocols, he said the organizing committee had installed signs to remind those who enter the area to comply with the predetermined health protocols including wearing face masks.
Additionally, Ashadi said athletes who would join the offline competition in Papua were required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
