Jakarta Govt Explores Urban Tourism Prospect In Historical Cikini

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Administration plans to revitalize popular urban areas in Cikini, Monas, and Pasar Baru to become a focused tourism sector as the three locations are scattered with places with historic values to become urban tourism sites.
“We are attempting to elevate and establish urban tourism through existing historical places,” said Jakarta tourism agency’s head of marketing and attractions Hari Wibowo on September 15, Antaranews reported.
CIkini has always been known for the spread of unique buildings that all have their own stories to tell. Based on multiple sources, Cikini area in the colonial age developed unanimously with the Gondangdia housing pictured in the post office building (Kantor Pos) located at the front of the Cikini Raya street and the house of renowned painter Raden Saleh Syarif Bustaman, which is currently the offices of PGI Cikini Hospital.
There are also some who would consider legendary buildings and businesses such as Bakoel Coffee (1878), the house of Kurani Soebidjo, the bread plant Tan Ek Tjoan, the store of Indonesia’s first eyewear entrepreneur A. Kasoem, up to the renowned Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM), which used to be the front yard and mini zoo owned by Raden Saleh.
The Jakarta Administration is currently forming a tourism package working together with local hotels and tour guide communities in order to realize this.
