TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Automotive giant Hyundai Motor Group and LG Energy Solution Ltd. have officially started the construction of an Indonesian-based battery cell plant with a goal in mind to become a global market leader in electric vehicle battery production.
This grew optimism in the Association of Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers (Gaikindo) which believes the future factory will be able to make the production of electric vehicles more efficient that would lead to lower price barriers for consumers.
Citing Bisnis.com, Gaikindo general secretary Kukuh Kumara said battery production is a positive momentum to grow the potential of a national electric vehicle as the factory will create many sub-industries related to EV and improve the economy and per capita income.
“In the future, there will be a better confluence of the curves of demand and supply of electric cars,” said Kumara on September 15.
The general pricing of electric vehicles is currently hovering at a hefty Rp600 million which is why the factory is expected to reduce that price point down to the Rp300 million-level.
