Pertamina Eyeing to Establish 5,000 Solar-powered Service Stations

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-energy firm Pertamina is eyeing to install solar-powered electrification in 5,000 service stations which the company said could save up to Rp4 billion annually as it will cover the need to pay electricity bills in these gas stations.
The installation of the solar panels will reportedly be enacted by Pertamina NRE, the company’s subholding firm. This also aligns with the company’s goal to transition its gas stations into ‘green energy stations’ that are environmentally friendly compared to the current business model.
“Pertamina continues to support the goal to attain net zero emission,” said Chief Executive Officer Pertamina NRE Dannif Danusaputro in a statement on September 14.
He added that the installation of 5,000 solar-powered electrification will potentially reduce emissions up to 34,000 tons of C02 annually.
Apart from decarbonization, this program is said to potentially provide economic benefits for gas station owners from the less electricity bills they would need to spend using the on grid solar power system.
