TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment said Indonesia’s attempts in suppressing the number of Covid-19 cases were noteworthy, especially after the enforcement of the public activity restriction (PPKM).
The state official who is also coordinator of the PPKM policy said on Tuesday, Sept. 7, “our achievement has been very good but we must get carried away. This is not yet our ultimate objective. The story has not ended yet as many variants can arrive. We just don’t know [what will come next].”
Citing Bisnis.com, Luhut Pandjaitan said his ministry received a study conducted by the Harvard Public Health, which its contents were already initiated by the government. “What’s interesting is that we have done what they wrote, only two aspects were not mentioned; the role of military and police, as well as PeduliLindungi [app],” said the minister.
He praised the roles of Indonesian military (TNI) and the national police. Luhut further talked about how Indonesia’s significant dropping rate of Covid-19 transmission is talked about in ASEAN.
“I just received [a report] again just now stating our absolute number of Covid-19 handling is better than Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, and Taiwan,” said Luhut Pandjaitan in Bandung.
The Minister insisted that the journey to suppress Covid-19 transmission rate is not over yet and that another surge can possibly happen once society ignores national health protocols.
