TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Syarief Hasan believes that bringing up the State Policy Principles (PPHN) is sufficiently regulated by law, therefore he refuses to amend the 1945 Constitution.
"I think it is enough to present the PPHN through the law or the maximum way with the TAP MPR, therefore there is no need to amend the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia," said Syarief Hasan during the discussion on the Four Pillars of the MPR RI at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Monday, September 6, 2021.
According to him, a lot of considerations need to be made for amendments and considering it’s a political arena, he feared that it could change regarding the contents of the changes. Therefore it is better to strengthen the direction of development that has been regulated in Law No. 17 of 2007 on the National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN) and Law No. 25 of 2004 on the Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJM).
"Our goal as a state is only one, namely welfare and justice for all Indonesian people, that is the parameter, not in a monumental form," said Syarief Hasan.
Syarief confirmed that the MPR had not decided anything regarding the amendment. This, according to him, answers questions from various parties regarding the discourse of presenting PPHN through amendments. He then added that investigation would be carried out as there are many aspects that will affect and be considered if an amendment to the 1945 Constitution is made. "We are not in a hurry to make a decision," he said.
