Bukit Asam Plans Building Solar Plants in Sumatra, Kalimantan

6 September 2021 19:51 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned coal mining company Bukit Asam (IDX: PTBA) has ventured into the solar energy business. The company plans to build solar power plants on lands it formerly used as mine sites.

PTBA president director Suryo Eko Hadianto said on Monday that the company planned to develop solar power plant projects in Ombilin, West Sumatra; Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra; and Bantuas, East Kalimantan.

The former mine sites will be the location for solar power plants, each with a capacity of up to 200 megawatts.

The company is currently in talks with state power company PLN about the possibilities of becoming an independent power producer (IPP) by 2022.

Bukit Asam's business expansion into the green energy sector also included a Commercial Operation Date (CoD) for a solar power plant at Soekarno Hatta Airport, cooperating with state airline operator Angkasa Pura II. "The solar power plant began its full operations on October 1, 2020," said Suryo.
