TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Working Committee of the House of Representatives (DPR) Legal Commission approved the bill on the Indonesia-Russia Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement in Criminal Matters or MLA.
The approval was announced in the hearing held by DPR's Legal Commission with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and the Foreign Affairs Ministry today, September 6, 2021.
“This working committee meeting has approved the overall contents of the bill on Indonesia-Russia agreements related to mutual legal assistance in criminal matters to be later ratified and signed,” said committee member Wihadi Wiyanto from the Gerindra Party Faction as broadcasted online today.
Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly has welcomed the ratification. He hoped that cooperation in the prevention and prosecution of criminal acts, especially transnational cases, could run effectively.
“Such as cyber crimes, narcotics, corruption, taxation, terrorism, and money laundering. The bilateral ties between the two countries in law enforcement will be tightened under a stronger legal basis,” said Yasonna.
Other factions also approved the bill. This MLA provides a legal basis for Indonesia and Russia to carry out legal assistance—such as investigation, prosecution, court examination—and implement court decisions including searching a suspect, seizing assets, and so on.
