TEMPO.CO, Bandung - Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) is preparing to implement an exclusive hydbrid learning system that would be done gradually, said ITB Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs Jaka Sembiring. The hybdrid learning system is the combination of online learning and face-to-face learning or by attending classes.
"We are not opening the campus in a rush, let alone involving thousands of students and lecturers," he said at an online event 'ITB Talks: First Semester Meeting for Academic Year 2021/2020', Thursday, September 2.
If the Covid-19 pandemic situation continues to improve, said Jaka, the hybrid lectures plan will be carried out in stages. They expected to start after the midterm or mid-October, according to ITB academic calendar.
Currently, only students and lecturers with the needs to do final assignments, thesis, and dissertations are allowed to be on campus. Gradually, the prioritized students will be those who have to use laboratories, studios, or field lectures. Even so, the number of students will be limited.
"The number of students is limited to a maximum of 30 percent," said Jaka.
Vaccination is not a mandatory requirement for hybrid learning as not everyone could get the Covid shots due to different health background. Based on reports submitted to ITB, around 70 percent of 25,000 students have been vaccinated. As for undergraduate students, said Jaka, ITB requires approval from parents for their children to join the learning system.
