TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Health Deputy Minister Dante Saksono Harbuwono in a virtual press conference on Thursday announced the arrival of 1,195,340 Pfizer vaccine doses at the Soekarno Hatta Airport today.

This marks the second delivery from the United States after the inaugural delivery of 1,560,780 doses arrived on August 19.

“With this additional shipment we currently own 220 million vaccine doses in ready form or raw materials,” said the deputy minister on September 2.

The Indonesian Health Minister signed a partnership with PT Pfizer Indonesia and BioNTech SE to provide the country with around 50 million doses, which as it arrives in Indonesia is named BNT 162b2 throughout 2021. This is part of Pfizer and BioNTech’’s global commitment to help countries overcome the Covid-19 pandemic.

An emergency use authorization was issued by the Indonesian Food and DrugMonitoring Agency (BPOM) for this type of vaccine back in July. The agency says Pfizer vaccines are safe to be injected on people aged 12 and above with the second dose given three weeks after the first vaccine shot.
