TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Coordinating Minister of Politics, Law, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD on Tuesday asserts that the Indonesian government has mobilized preventive measures to suppress potential terrorism threats across Indonesian regions following the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan.

“We will not discuss whether the Taliban are terrorists or not. However, the government will act firmly against terrorism and radicalism, Taliban or not,” said Mahfud MD in the East Javan interfaith event on August 31.

He acknowledged that the situation slightly heated up in Indonesia as the negotiation took place between Taliban and the Afghan government, which was starting to be besieged, led to a number of arrests here in Indonesia.

His statement came after the management of the Annuqayah Sumenep Madura Islamic boarding school, Moh. Hosnan Annafi’ in the event urged the government to take firm action against terrorism and radicalism in Indonesia that he finds is growing, especially after worldwide headlines being filled by the Taliban takeover.
