TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir in a virtual seminar on Sunday affirmed that he will introduce changes to the business model of the State Film Productions (PFN) and transform it as financiers for Indonesian filmmakers.
Along with the Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno, the state-owned Indonesian film production company will later on help finance young domestic filmmakers.
He acknowledged in the event that funding is one of the major problems often arising in the national film industry and is eyeing to shift the PFN to help fund local filmmakers, Antaranews reports.
“The PFN, as I have consulted with the Tourism Minister Sandiaga Uno, must no longer act as a filmmaker. Leave it to Indonesia’s youth to create films,” said Thohir on August 29.
Sandiaga Uno echoed his sentiment in the same event and agreed that the PFN should not be positioned to compete with national filmmakers but rather accommodate and fund this sector.
“What is needed is the government’s presence in the film sector as financiers,” said Uno.
They both then implied that the business model changes will be introduced as soon as 2022 as the two state ministries plan to collaborate in this sector.
