TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - People are starting to turn to the reclaimed island Pantai Maju (Moving Forward Beach) in North Jakarta as an exercise destination while enjoying the scenery on the north coast of the capital city. Many visitors are seen jogging and cycling in the area.
A visitor from Pluit, North Jakarta, Ukti Trsnayanti said she enjoyed exercising there because of the view of Jakarta Bay and Angke Kapuk protected forest. “It’s a good, convenient place for exercising and not far from home,” said Ukti on Thursday, August 26.
Another visitor, Santi Setiawan, also exercised with her friends. They jogged along the three-kilometer-long pedestrian path. “Here you can do sports and go for culinary tourism,” said Santi who lives in Karawaci, Tangerang.
Several visitors were also seen walking their pets along the path above the surface of the embankment that stretches from the south to the north in different widths.
On the south side, the embankment path is about nine-meter wide with two separate sections for pedestrians and cyclists. Meanwhile on the north side, the trail lightly descends with a width of about four meters for pedestrians and cyclists. Along the side of the embankment is a stretch of rocks meeting the calm sea waves.
People have been allowed to exercise and have meals outdoors after the central government relaxed the public mobility restrictions or PPKM to level 3 in Jakarta. However, officers in Pantai Maju areas stand guard to remind visitors to comply with the predetermined health protocols, such as wearing masks and maintaining distance.
