Earthquake Hits Papua's Capital Jayapura, BMKG Says

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported on Thursday evening, August 26, 2021, that Papua's Capital Jayapura had been struck by a 5.0 Richter scale earthquake at 21:54 local times.
The BMKG stated that the earthquake's epicenter is located 51 kilometers Northwest of Jayapura 10 kilometers beneath the ocean.
In a separate event, the agency recorded three aftershocks hitting Tojo Una-una in Central Sulawesi following the a 5.8 Richter scale earthquake that hit this region earlier today at 09:14 Western Indonesia Times (WIB). One person reportedly died in the disaster.
The three aftershocks in C. Sulawesi were recorded at 15:04 WIB (Magnitude 3.2), 18:17 WIB (Magnitude 3.9), and at 19:43 WIB (Magnitude 3.4) with its epicenter at sea but had gradually recorded to be closer to land.
