TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani said this year’s economic projection was corrected to the range of 3.7 percent to 4.5 percent due to the disruption of the COVID-19 Delta variant, particularly in the third quarter.
She predicted that Indonesia's economic growth in 2021 will reach the upper limit of the target, which is 4.5 percent.
“We will get to the highest outlook if the recovery is able to run from September until the end of 2021, without another COVID-19 disruption or COVID-19 cases can always be suppressed,” said Sri at the online press conference on the State Budget (APBN) in Jakarta, Wednesday, August 25.
In addition, she opined that the target will be achieved if the public can remain vigilant by strictly applying the health protocols, as well as with the readiness of health facilities, the implementation of 3T (tracing, testing, and treatment), and acceleration of vaccination.
The sooner COVID-19 is contained, the enforcement of public mobility restrictions (PPKM), especially under its strictest level or level 4, will not take too long in order to drive the economic recovery.
“The effectiveness of PPKM which is able to control the pandemic is surely the key for us to revive the economy,” said Sri Mulyani.
The government has eased the COVID-19 restrictions policy to PPKM Level 3 for Jakarta Greater Area or Jabodetabek, Greater Bandung, and Greater Surabaya in line with the downward trend in COVID-19 cases in the regions.
