Police Capture Man for Home-growing Marijuana

25 August 2021 12:19 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The South Jakarta Police's Drug Investigation Unit arrested OK (30), an entrepreneur, for planting marijuana at his home in the Cilandak district. The man is charged with abusing marijuana.

"Suspected of [keeping] cannabis in the form of live plants as well as its crops; the dried leaves and the seeds," the South Jakarta Police's Narcotics Investigation Unit chief, Adj. Sr. Comr. Wadi Sabani said in Jakarta, Tuesday, August 24.

Wadi said that the arrest came following reports from people living in OK's neighborhood.

The suspect said he initially bought dried marijuana from a friend, then planted the dried seeds at home. He smoked the marijuana himself daily since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

After six months, he harvested the crops for self-use.

During the arrest, the police confiscated 6 live cannabis plants, 103 grams of dried marijuana, as well as with planting tools and equipment.

The police are charging him for violating Article 111 paragraphs (1) and (2) of Law 35/2009 on Narcotics. OK is facing at least six to 20 years imprisonment and a fine between Rp1 billion and Rp10 billion.

The police are still in pursuit of another suspect, the person who first gave OK the marijuana seeds.
