TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan said the Covid-19 pandemic has subsided which is marked by the effective reproduction number (Rt) of below one.
“We have dropped below 1 which means the pandemic has waned. Hopefully this trend continues to drop,” said the governor during a mass vaccination event for foreign nationals at City Hall today, August 24, Antaranews reported.
He said that in the past five days, Jakarta logged Rt number of below one after the implementation of community mobility restrictions to prevent the spread of Covid-19. On Monday last week, the capital city logged daily new cases below 500, which was the lowest in the past three months.
Meanwhile, the government’s vaccination program managed to inoculate 9.3 million people out of the initial goal of 8.94 million (104 percent) with the first dose of vaccine and there are 4.8 people that have received the complete dose.
Du to the drop in confirmed cases, the city administration lowered the public activity restriction (PPKM) Level to Level 3 with loosened mobility restrictions effective from August 24 until August 30.
“This is great news and the result of collective work from many people. We should maintain this together even though the status of the PPKM has shifted,” said Anies Baswedan
