TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In the 23rd anniversary event of the National Mandate Party (PAN) on Monday, People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Deputy Speaker Zulkifli Hasan asserted an amendment of the 1945 Constitution (UUD 1945) would never take place.
According to Zulkifli, who is also the National Mandate Party (PAN) chairperson, he is in charge of the latest developments in the country.
“I am in charge of every latest development in the republic. I think there shall not be any worries of an impending amendment. From me personally, it will never happen,” he said on Monday, August 23, 2021.
The former MPR Speaker of 2014-2019 said an amendment was only possible when he was still MPR Speaker, but he underscored it did not happen. Hasan believed no such thing would take place until the upcoming General Election.
His statement was in contrast with that of MPR Speaker Bambang Soesatyo, who often campaigned for amendment of the constitution. Bambang said it was essential to accommodate the country’s state policy outlines (PPHN) that championed a sustainable national development.
However, Bambang once said he was unsure as to whether the PPHN would be overseen under a limited amendment or the Law (UU). He also believed visionary planning was necessary to continue progressing and detect future challenges.
