TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Soekarno-Hatta Airport customs office on Thursday foiled a smuggling attempt of 10 kilograms of methamphetamine from Congo, Central Africa, hidden in statues and gemstones.  

Head of the airport customs office Finari Manan said the methamphetamines were smuggled in eight small packages hidden inside small-sized animal statues and 20 green stone balls. 

“The total weight of the crystal meth was 10,456 grams,” Manan confirmed to Tempo on August 19.

Airport authorities successfully foiled the drug smuggling after getting a tip on July 23 from intelligence that there would be an alleged drug smuggling attempt, which was later found in the packages sent from an individual named Papy Edike Aweze from Congo. 

The class A illegal narcotics were tested and confirmed at the spot and were handed over to the National Police for further investigations which led to an Indonesian identified as “A” (29) residing in West Jakarta’s South Kembangan for further investigation.
