TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government agenda for Thursday implies that the delivery of 1,560,780 doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines from the United States will arrive in Indonesia later in the evening.

This information came from the communications team of the Covid-19 handling and national economic recovery team (KPCPEN). The Pfizer vaccine is set to arrive from the Soekarno-Hatta airport in Tangerang.

This marks the inaugural arrival of this brand of vaccine in Indonesia after the Health Ministry established a partnership with Pfizer Indonesia and BioNTech SE that agreed to supply 50 million doses later to be named the BNT 162b2 throughout 2021.

The deal is part of the global commitment from Pfizer and BioNTech to help countries mitigate the Covid-19 pandemic.

Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin earlier in July stated that the 50 million doses is hoped to help accelerate Indonesia’s mass vaccinations.

The Indonesian Food and Drugs Monitoring Agency (BPOM) has also issued an emergency use authorization for Pfizer vaccines last month for teens aged 12 and above with a total of two doses within three weeks.
