TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Central Java governor Ganjar Pranowo on Wednesday pitched the idea of making the Dieng highlands geothermal project which supplies power for the public as a geothermal tourism destination.
“Apart from supplying energy for the general public, industry, and tourism, the geothermal project around the Sikidang Dieng crater can be turned into a tourism site,” the governor said as he visited the project in the Banjarnegara Regency on August 18, Antaranews reported.
He believes the site managed by PT Geo Dipa Energi can serve as an education platform for a large portion of society, especially children. Moreso, the abundance of Central Java geothermal energy sources.
PT Geo Dipa Energi will continue to develop the Dieng highlands geothermal project and add 12 gas wells in Karang Tengah, Banjarnegara Regency.
“Children will be able to learn and see for themselves that through our astonishing [natural wealth] we can be energy-independent,” Ganjar Pranowo added.
