Jakarta Logs 1,029 New Covid-19 Cases Today

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Health Agency announced 1,029 more new Covid-19 cases were detected in the capital city today, August 18. The agency’s Head of Disease Prevention and Control Unit, Dwi Oktavia, said the number of new cases was obtained from PCR tests on 11,207 people.
The agency also recorded an increase in active cases at 119. “So the number of active cases to date is 9,035. They are still undergoing treatment or are in isolation,” said Dwi in a written statement on Wednesday, August 18.
During the past week, the Health Agency noted that the Covid-19 positivity rate in Jakarta fell to 7.9 percent. This figure, however, was still above the WHO recommended safe rate of below 5 percent.
Since the onset of the pandemic, Jakarta has thus far recorded 842,639 cases. Of that number, 820,517 patients have recovered, bringing the recovery rate to 97.4 percent. There were also 13,087 patients who died due to the disease, causing the death rate to hit 1.6 percent.
