Independence Day; 134,000 Convicts Receive Remission

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Some 134,000 convicts and child prisoners throughout Indonesia get general remission on Independence Day. Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights granted the general remission on the commemoration of 76th anniversary of Indonesian Independence Day on August 17, 2021.
"The general remission is granted to 134,430 convicts and children. The detail is; RU-1 or partial remission is given to 131,939 prisoners, while 2,491 people get RU-2 or free immediately," said Director General of Correction Department Reynhard Silitonga in an online conference Tuesday, August 17.
The remissions were granted to those who behaved well and met the requirements set by the law. There are several types of remissions, namely general remission, special remission, additional remission, humanity remission and decade remission.
General remission is annually granted on August 17 on Indonesia's independence day.
