Indonesia Independence Day; Drivers Stop Vehicles at 10:17

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia is celebrating the 76th Independence Day today, August 17, 2021. To commemorate the proclamation day, drivers riding on the roads were asked to stop and step out of their vehicles and stand up tall at 10:17 western Indonesia time.
The drivers were asked to stop their vehicle engines for about 3 minutes at 10:17-10:20 am. This was done to honor the Independence Day proclamation.
Jakarta Metro Police Sr. Comsr. Sambodo Purnomo Yogo confirmed that. “Yes, that's correct,” he said, as stated on the traffic police official website.
This was done simultaneously on all the roads in Jakarta. Drivers were asked to voluntarily to do this to honor the nation.
The authorities sounded sirens and fired cannons to give sign for road users when they had to stop the vehicles.
South Jakarta Metro Police Chief Azis Andriansyah said the officers were standby at 10:15 to stop the vehicles entering Senayan Roundabout area.
Not only in the capital city, Traffic Police in Pinrang, South Sulawesi was also asked to do similar act during the proclamation of Indonesia's 76th Independence Day. This was done at Jl. Jend Sudirman, Pinrang Regency at 11:17 central Indonesia time.
