Jokowi Gives Greysia / Apriyani Rp5.5bn Bonus

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo welcomed the arrival of the 2020 Indonesian Olympic Team at the Bogor Palace, West Java, on Friday, August 13. He also symbolically gave bonuses to the athletes, including Greysia / Apriyani.

The biggest bonus was obtained by the women's doubles badminton pair, Greysia Polii and Apriani Rahayu. Both of them clinched the only gold medal for Indonesia in the world tournament held every four years.

“The Indonesian government gives awards in the form of bonuses for your achievements. Rp 5.5 billion for gold medalists, Rp2.5 billion for silver medalists, and Rp1.5 billion for bronze medalists,” said the President.

Bonuses were also given to coaches and other athletes who participated in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics yet did not bring home medals. However, the state head stopped short of mentioning the amount.

“Hopefully the achievements today can be inspirations, examples, encouragement, and motivation for all of our athletes and community, to keep working hard, continue to excel, and give the best for the nation and country,” he remarked.

Besides Greysia / Apriyani, the Indonesian team's medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics were also contributed by weightlifter Eko Yuli Irawan in the men's 61 kilograms category who won silver. Weightlifter Windy Cantika Aisah in the women's 49-kilogram category, weightlifter Rahmat Abdullah in the men’s 73-kilogram category, and badminton player Anthony Sinisuka Ginting bagged bronze medals.

“The public and I are very proud of the struggle and hard work you did in Tokyo, and really appreciate the medals achievement,” said Jokowi.
