How to Register for the 76th Indonesian Independence Virtual Ceremony

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In commemoration of the 76th Indonesian independence during an ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the Indonesian government is offering the general public - residing in Indonesia and overseas - to participate in the official virtual independence ceremony that will be attended by the President and Vice President on August 17, 2021.

Applications for registration can be sent through https://pandang.istanapresiden.go.id. With a total allocation of 35,690 available invitations with half of the applicants divided for the main opening ceremony and the flag-lowering ceremony. 

Participants must be at least 6 years of age, are physically and mentally healthy, residing in a proper location to enter the ceremony via video conference, and are permitted to wear proper traditional attributes. The government also encourages people to obey health protocols and ensure that their video and sound inputs are turned on. 

Among the many technical requirements, it is important to note that participants must include a cell phone number that is synced to the messaging app WhatsApp and will be asked to take a selfie picture while holding an official ID card (KTP) as a means of authentication.
