TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tangerang City Legislative Council (DPRD) Speaker, Gatot Wibowo, said that he was baffled by the procurement of orders on Louis Vuitton uniforms for 50 council members.
“All this time we never discussed or submitted any certain brand, we are also baffled as to where it came from,” said the Tangerang DPRD speaker to Tempo on August 10.
His statement was a direct response to Tempo’s question about the DPRD's controversial plan. Apart from Louis Vuitton official daily uniforms (PDH), there were also other notably expensive niche designer brands pitched as DPRD uniforms from Theodore, Lanificio Di Calvino, and Thomas Crown.
He claimed that the brands had emerged in public after the winners of the regional uniform provider auction were announced, “Which suddenly blew in public.”
Gatot added that the Tangerang City leaders, members, and secretariats have looked into the issue. He said the council secretary (sekwan) stated there were no clothing brands in the city’s DPRD uniform procurement.
Allegedly, the use of the designer brands in the creation of DPRD uniforms soared the Tangerang DPRD’s budget to Rp675 million, which is nearly twice compared to last year’s budget.
