TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, revealed evaluations and improvements from the level 4 public mobility restrictions or PPKM Level 4 in Java-Bali regions, which was enforced from July until August 9. The government on Monday, August 9, decided to extend the Covid-19 restrictions until August 16.
The Java-Bali PPKM coordinator claimed the policy had seen good results. “The data shows a decrease in the rate of positive cases by up to 59.6 percent from the peak of cases on July 15, 2021,” said Luhut in an online press conference on Monday, August 9.
There was also a downward trend in daily cases and hospital bed occupancy rate in a number of agglomeration areas, except Malang Raya and Bali. “The government will immediately intervene in these two areas to reduce the rate of daily cases,” Luhut added.
According to him, the death rate in Java-Bali has also decreased, despite the figure in each province still fluctuating. East Java reported the highest death cases with 23,292, followed by Central Java with 23,007 deaths, and Jakarta with 12,812 deaths.
Luhut also said the government would establish a special team to monitor areas with a significant spike in Covid-19 death cases in recent weeks.
