Covid-19 Task Force: Weekly Active Cases Down as of August 1

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Covid-19 Task Force spokesperson, Wiku Adisasmito, said Indonesia's number of weekly active cases dropped as of August 1. He underlined that this development must be monitored to prevent future deaths as much as possible.

“The good news is, the national number of weekly active cases decreases for the first time after a spike in cases at the end of June,” said Wiku in a press conference on Thursday, August 5.

He outlined that Indonesia recorded 573,903 active cases on July 25, and as of August 1, the figure fell to 535,135. Throughout July, the case continued to increase, Wiku added.

The drop in weekly cases showed that the number of recoveries was higher than the number of new cases.

Wiku thus expressed his appreciation to all regional governments, health workers, and the public who have joined hands together to reduce active cases. The drop in active cases, he went on, must be maintained considering the national active cases were still above 500,000.

As of today, August 5, Indonesia has detected 3,568,331 Covid-19 cases since the first infections found in March last year, with 518,310 active cases.
