TEMPO.CO, Bandung - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil said the extension of the alert level-based public mobility restrictions (PPKM) in his region would be carried out proportionally. “It will be continued. The indicators in several areas are relatively not good,” he said on Tuesday, August 3.
Kamil confirmed that half of the province’s areas were no longer under PPKM Level 4, the highest alert level. “14 out of 27 regions are already at level 3. And the only region under level 2 across Java-Bali is only in West Java, which is Tasikmalaya Regency,” he said.
Nevertheless, he asked all parties to stay vigilant so that the level status of the Covid-19 restrictions could be relaxed.
According to him, several activities could be reopened in areas under PPKM Level 3 on conditions. He also added that regional heads were allowed to relax the restrictions in economic activities based on their readiness.
Kamil further said the hospital bed occupancy rate or BOR in West Java continued to decline.
“[The number of] Covid-19 cases after the PPKM enforcement is decreasing. Our BOR is now at 52 percent compared to its peak last month at 91 percent. So if we are asked whether or not the PPKM is successful, it is successful. We are slowly escaping PPKM level 4 even though several areas still apply it,” Ridwan Kamil said.
