TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Governor of Jakarta Surjadi Soedirdja, who served from 1992-1997, passed away today, August 3, 2021, at 10:53 Western Indonesian Time (WIB). The 13th governor died at the age of 83.
“Please pray that he dies husnul khatimah (with blessings ahead), all his sins are forgiven, and all his deeds are multiplied, and given the best place beside Allah,” as stated by Surjadi’s extended family.
The graduate of the National Military Academy in 1962 also served as Home Affairs and Regional Autonomy Minister from October 1999 until July 2001.
During his leadership in the capital city, the man who was born on October 11, 1938, developed the low-cost apartment projects, opened up green areas, and increased water catchment areas.
Governor Anies Baswedan extended his condolences via his Instagram account @aniesbaswedan. “The entire family of the Jakarta Provincial Government expresses its deepest condolences for the passing of H. Surjadi Soedirdja.” Anies wrote on Tuesday, August 3.
