TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - East Java governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa on Monday announced that the province will soon commence the third Covid-19 vaccination dose, or booster shot, for healthcare workers and people with disabilities.

The vaccine brands used for the third dose shots on the two groups will also be distinguished as people with disabilities who are 18 years old and above will receive Sinopharm doses while the health and medical workers will receive Moderna shots.

“The Muhammadiyah University of Malang [UMM] will start the program with the two types of vaccines,” said the governor who was accompanied by UMM rector Fauzan and Mayor Sutiaji on August 2. “Malang will be the first region to utilize the moderna vaccines for health human resources and Sinopharm for persons with disabilities.”

During the announcement, governor Khofifah was visiting patients treated at the UMM Hospital and talked to a number of patients virtually. She conveyed her appreciation for hospital management’s inclusive policy.

She acknowledged the ‘outstanding spirit’ shown by the people at UMM Hospital in getting their share of Covid-19 vaccine shots, which Khofifah said helps accelerate the nationwide mass-vaccination program. The facility commenced the vaccination on July 31 and is eyeing to vaccinate 5,000 people.

Apart from the UMM booster shots program, AstraZeneca vaccines will also be used in the vaccinations held at Brawijaya University and Malang Islamic University.
