Jokowi: Greysia / Apriyani's Victory Is A Gift for Indonesia's Anniversary

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has congratulated Indonesian women's doubles badminton pair Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu (Greysia / Apriyani), who clinched gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics today, August 2, 2021.
“The waiting for gold has ended this afternoon. Indonesian women's doubles Greysia Polii / Apriyani Rahayu managed to win the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in a tough, thrilling match,” the President wrote in his personal Instagram account.
The Indonesian pair won gold by beating Chinese shuttlers Chen Qin Chen/Jia Yi Fan in two sets at Musashino Forest Plaza, Japan.
This became the first gold for Indonesia at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Previously, the country had bagged one silver and two bronze medals, all of which from weightlifting.
“This victory is a gift for Indonesia's independence anniversary, [which will fall] in two weeks. Congratulations and thank you Greysia / Apriyani!” Jokowi said.
