TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Tokyo Olympics badminton team will get its last chance to win a gold medal as the women’s double Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu are scheduled to perform in the badminton finals against China’s Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan on 11:50 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) on Monday.
The pair’s progress to the badminton finals, held at the Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, in itself will leave a mark in Indonesia’s sport history as it would be the inaugural moment the country’s representative enters the final.
“We continue to maintain our mindset since first stepping in Tokyo, which is to enjoy the gyms that help us perform in the game. We do not want to think about our opponent. Our preparation involves keeping our calm to control the game and prepare for recovery,” said Greysia, Antaranews reported.
Indonesia’s single men’s badminton athlete Anthony Ginting will also be fighting at the bronze medal match against Kevin Crodon from Guatemala in the match scheduled on Monday, August 2, 18:00 WIB.
“This medal will really mean so much for me. This is my first Olympics and I have tried very hard to reach this level and the [semifinal] is a dream come true, which is why I do not want to waste this opportunity,” said Ginting.
Indonesia’s women’s lifter Nurul Akmal in the 87 kilogram category is also scheduled to perform today at the Tokyo Olympics today at 17:50 WIB.
