3.5m Moderna Vaccines from U.S. Arrives Via COVAX in Indonesia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United States Ambassador to Indonesia Sung Y. Kim on Sunday announced the arrival of 3.5 million doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine from the U.S. Government, which are in addition to the 4.5 million doses of Moderna donations in July.

He stated that the U.S. government is pleased and proud to do their part in helping end the pandemic and contributing to the doses of vaccines for Indonesia to reach this goal. 

Ambassador Kim stated in the U.S. Embassy website: “To slow this surge, it’s important to work quickly and get as many safe and effective vaccines into people’s arms as soon as possible,” the Ambassador wrote on August 1.  “We will continue to support Indonesia’s vaccine rollout effort and help Indonesia move closer toward a safe reopening of its economy.”

The U.S. contribution supports the purchase and delivery of COVID-19 vaccines for 92 countries, including Indonesia, which has also assisted in the broader COVID-19 response efforts. To date, the United States has invested $47 million to help Indonesia improve vaccination services, accelerate testing and tracing, share factual information, and improve healthcare facilities capacities and services.  

The U.S. contribution includes over 1,000 ventilators that are currently in use in 600 hospitals across the country. The shipment of the Moderna vaccines was delivered through the COVAX Advance Market Commitment (COVAX AMC), a global initiative to support equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines.
