TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Fire blazed in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, on Saturday noon at around 11:40, burning down ten houses in the Karet Pasar Baru Barat I area.
Central Jakarta firefighters deployed 15 firetrucks to put out the fire.
"The neighborhood (RT) head and the residents first saw the smoke from behind of a house of meatball shop owner," said Central Jakarta Firefighters official Asril to Tempo, Saturday, July 31.
The meatball shop was closed so the people could not make it on time in extinguishing the fire. The residents tried to put it out by using light fire extinguisher.
"The fire apparantly caused by a short circuit," Asril said.
Seventy-five firefighters and the locals tried to put out the fire that engulfed 10 houses. It was finally extinguished in 1.5 hours at 13:10.
As a result, 10 families must evacuate and bear a Rp2.8 billion loss. Asril said no casualty in the Tanah Abang fire incident.
