Anthony Ginting Advances to Tokyo Olympics Badminton Quarter Finals

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian men’s single badminton player Anthony Ginting will progress to the Tokyo Olympics quarter finals after defeating Japan’s Kanta Tsuneyama in round 16 of the men’s single tournament on Thursday, July 29.
Ginting and Tsuneyama played a competitive first round with the first two points scored by the Indonesian but was immediately met with fight from the home star hero who equaled the tally to 2-2. Tsuneyama even managed to surpass Ginting by 2-5 before Ginting took the first game interval with 11-8.
After the brief break both men showed great performance with several times equaling each scores in 11-11 and 12-12. Slowly Ginting extended his lead in the scores and closed the first game with 21-18.
In the second game, Anthony Ginting played more conservatively and led the scores with 11-4 through two smashes and drop shots. Tsuneyama made a critical mistake during the second game in one of his serves, resulting at 20-14 score and ended with 21-14.
Anthony Ginting’s recent achievement adds to the list of Indonesian badminton players progressing at the Tokyo Olympic.
Meanwhile, Indonesian badminton teams advancing to the semifinals will be Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu and Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan.
