Windy Cantika Wins Indonesia's First Bronze Medal in Tokyo Olympics

  • TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An Indonesian weightlifter Windy Cantika won the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 on Saturday. This was the first medal for Indonesia. 

    The Minister of Sports and Youth Zainudin Amali congratulated her through a video call. "Alhamdulillah, we won the bronze medal," said the minister in Jakarta on Saturday, July 24.

    Windy, 19 years old, collected the bronze medal at the 84 kilogram class competition in Tokyo International Forum.

    "To Windy, coach, CdM and the officials, I say thank you for the achievement that makes Indonesia proud. This is the result of the hardwork," the minister added. 

    Windy Cantika managed to get the point with the total weightlifting of 194 kilogram. This was her first medal in an Olympic Game.

    Windy bagged the bronze medal at the Clean and Jerk, taking over the United States' lifter position. Meanwhile, Chinese athlete Hou Zhihui got the gold and India's Chanu Mirabai won the silver.
